What data source does this use?
It uses the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics CPI-U series for all items, U.S. city average, stored as annual averages through 2025. The dataset version and last checked date are 2026-05-22.
Is this the CPI for my country?
No. This version uses only U.S. CPI-U. It does not use Japan CPI, IPCA, HICP, KPI, or another local consumer price index.
Is this an exchange-rate or cost-of-living comparison?
No. It compares years within one U.S. price index. It does not convert currencies and it does not compare living costs between countries or cities.
What is the inflation formula?
Adjusted amount equals amount multiplied by the end-year index divided by the start-year index.
Can I use this as a forecast?
No. The calculator compares historical index values only. It does not forecast future inflation.
How often should the data be updated?
The BLS CPI-U source is released monthly. This page stores annual averages and should be refreshed when the next BLS annual average is published.
