4-4-5 retail calendar calculator

Other languages English

Find the fiscal week, quarter and reporting period for a date. Choose a 4-4-5, 4-5-4 or 5-4-4 pattern and check the full year against your organization’s calendar.

Calendar settings

The anchor is an annual reference date, not necessarily the fiscal year boundary. Confirm these settings with your organization before using the results.

The example uses September 19, 2026. Use today to enter your device’s current date.

Choose a date that exists every year. February 29 is not supported as an anchor.

Nearest can fall before or after the anchor. Last includes the anchor itself. A year-end anchor matches the last day of your week; the next fiscal year starts the following day.

The year has 52 or 53 weeks based on consecutive boundaries. In a 53-week year, Period 12 and Quarter 4 gain one week.

Reset restores the example date and all calendar settings.

How the calendar works

Each quarter normally has 13 weeks divided into three periods. The pattern gives each period’s length: 4-4-5 means four weeks, four weeks, then five weeks. These are reporting periods, not calendar months.

Consecutive fiscal boundaries are 364 or 371 days apart. This determines a 52-week or 53-week year. The fiscal year label uses the actual start or end year and does not change the dates. Always compare the full date range as well as the label.

Worked example: January 2026 anchor

With a January 1 anchor on the start side and weeks starting Sunday, Nearest starts the fiscal year on January 4, 2026. Last starts it on December 28, 2025. Both calendars have 52 weeks, but the same date can belong to a different fiscal year or week.

For an end-side example, Sunday-start weeks end on Saturday. The Saturday nearest January 31, 2024 is February 3. With the same rule in the previous year, the fiscal year runs from January 29, 2023 through February 3, 2024: 53 weeks.

Before comparing with an ERP

Compare the fiscal year start, each period’s start and the 53-week year flag. A product name alone does not identify its calendar settings. This tool does not implement organization-specific exceptions or certify NRF or ERP compliance.

Frequently asked questions

Where does the 53rd week go?

It is added to Period 12 in Quarter 4. Period 12 has six weeks with 4-4-5, or five weeks with 4-5-4 and 5-4-4. Other allocations are not supported.

Is this the same as an ISO week or a month-based fiscal year?

No. This calendar uses your annual anchor and week settings. For ISO weeks or fiscal quarters based on calendar months, use the week, quarter and fiscal year calculator.

What does the shared URL contain?

It contains the selected date and calendar settings. It does not contain an organization name or financial data. Invalid or unsupported settings are rejected; use Reset example settings to start again.
