Method notes
- Mean and population standard deviation use the numeric scale values assigned to each option.
- Median uses the first scale value where the cumulative count reaches at least 50% of responses.
- Top-2-Box is the share in the two highest-scoring options; Bottom-2-Box is the share in the two lowest-scoring options.
- Neutral is shown only when the selected scale has a defined middle category. On the 0-10 NPS scale, passives are reported separately.
- Likert responses are ordinal, so median, mode, and distribution bars should be reported alongside any mean.

FAQ
What should I paste into this Likert calculator?
Paste one row per question with aggregated response counts for each option. You can include a question label first, followed by the counts from the lowest option to the highest option.
Can I paste raw survey responses or names?
No. Use aggregated counts only. Do not paste names, email addresses, free-text answers, or individual response rows. The calculation runs in your browser and the shared URL stores settings, not pasted counts.
Should Likert scale results use mean or median?
Likert responses are ordinal, so the mean and standard deviation are convenient summaries rather than the only answer. Report the median, mode, and distribution bars alongside the mean.
How is Top-2-Box calculated?
Top-2-Box is the percentage of responses in the two highest-scoring options. Bottom-2-Box uses the two lowest-scoring options.
When does the NPS section appear?
NPS appears only for an 11-point 0 to 10 scale. Scores 9 and 10 are promoters, 7 and 8 are passives, and 0 through 6 are detractors.
